As a roustabout, I was used to handling general rig maintenance, moving supplies, and keeping the deck clean. But now that I’ve started training as a floorman, everything’s faster and more technical. On my first day, the derrickhand and senior floorman showed me the drill floor. I helped handle drill pipes—using tongs and slips to connect and disconnect them during drilling. It was tough at first, but I focused on following their lead. I also assisted in mixing drilling mud, making sure the viscosity was right, and helped move heavy equipment with the crew. Safety was drilled into me—double-checking everything, wearing my PPE (hard hat, gloves, steel-toes), and staying alert. I’m still learning, but I’m getting better at anticipating what’s needed next. The key is teamwork, staying sharp, and asking questions. Excited to keep improving!
