Roles and Responsibilities
1. Wellsite Leadership & Coordination • Acts as the operator’s representative at the rig. • Leads all drilling, completion, or workover activities at the wellsite. • Coordinates between rig crew, service companies, logistics, and office support. • Ensures smooth communication and alignment between all parties. ⸻ 2. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) • Fully responsible for safe execution of operations. • Enforces company HSE policies, local regulations, and industry standards. • Conducts toolbox talks, safety meetings, and JSAs. • Ensures proper use of PPE and safe systems of work. • Has full authority to stop work if unsafe conditions exist. • Ensures emergency equipment and well control systems are always functional. ⸻ 3. Drilling Operations Execution • Executes the approved Drilling Program step by step. • Supervises: • Spudding • Drilling • Tripping • Circulation • Casing running • Cementing • Ensures correct parameters (WOB, RPM, flow rate, mud properties). • Monitors hole conditions and takes corrective actions. ⸻ 4. Well Control & Well Integrity • Ensures primary and secondary well barriers are always in place. • Confirms correct BOP configuration, pressure tests, and function tests. • Verifies kick detection systems are active. • Leads initial response during well control incidents. • Ensures crew competency and valid IWCF / IADC well control certification. ⸻ 5. Contractor & Service Company Management • Supervises drilling contractor and service companies (mud logging, MWD/LWD, cementing, directional drilling, wireline, etc.). • Ensures services are delivered as per contract and scope of work. • Resolves operational conflicts at the rig site. • Verifies service quality and approves job execution. ⸻ 6. Cost Control & Performance Optimization • Tracks daily drilling cost and service charges. • Identifies and reduces Non-Productive Time (NPT). • Optimizes drilling parameters to improve ROP and efficiency. • Recommends operational changes to reduce cost without compromising safety. ⸻ 7. Equipment, Materials & Logistics • Ensures availability of: • Drill pipe, BHA components • Mud chemicals • Cement and additives • Fuel, water, and spare parts • Confirms equipment certification and fitness for purpose. • Coordinates logistics, transport, and supply chain activities. ⸻ 8. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation • Prepares Daily Drilling Reports (DDR). • Reports incidents, near misses, and lessons learned. • Records depths, times, formations, and operational changes. • Communicates progress and technical issues to drilling engineers and management. ⸻ 9.
