Roles and Responsibilities
30+ years of experience in Drilling industry working as a Drilling Engineer, Drilling Supervisor, Drilling Superintendent, Drilling Leader and Project Manager (Bolivia, Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, Peru, UAE) in different geographic environments (Jungle, Continental Shelf, Permafrost) and with different type of rigs (Land, Helytrans, Tender Barge Assisted, Jack-Ups, CT Drilling, HWU). Deep knowledge in design and operations of directional, horizontal, ERD, HPHT, CSW, MLTBS Wells and MPD. Trilingual (Spanish, English, Russian). 1. Leadership & Authority Lead multinational, multi-company crews (rig crew, service companies, operators) Set clear expectations and enforce standards without micromanaging Maintain authority while building respect, not fear 2. Communication (Clear & Decisive) Give simple, unambiguous instructions under pressure Translate technical risks to non-technical stakeholders Ensure proper shift handovers and reporting 3. Situational Awareness Constantly read the rig environment: people, equipment, well conditions Detect early warning signs (fatigue, shortcuts, abnormal trends) Balance production pressure with safety 4. Decision-Making Under Pressure Make fast, informed decisions with incomplete data Know when to stop operations (“Stop Work Authority”) Accept accountability for outcomes 5. Safety Leadership & Risk Mindset Lead by example in HSE compliance Encourage reporting of near misses Challenge unsafe behaviors, even from senior personnel 6. Conflict Management Resolve disputes between crews, contractors, and company reps Address performance issues calmly and professionally Prevent cultural or language barriers from affecting operations 7. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Control your emotions during high-stress situations Recognize fatigue, stress, or overconfidence in crew members Adapt leadership style to different personalities and cultures 8. Coaching & Mentoring Develop junior drillers, toolpushers, and engineers Share lessons learned and best practices Give constructive feedback, not just criticism 9. Crisis Management Lead during kicks, losses, equipment failure, or weather events Maintain clarity, structure, and control in emergencies Communicate effectively with onshore teams 10. Professional Integrity Speak up against unsafe or unethical decisions Resist schedule or cost pressure when it compromises well integrity Maintain transparency in reporting
