Roles and Responsibilities

As a Rig Mechanic, I am responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all mechanical equipment on the drilling rig to ensure safe and efficient operations. My core duties include maintaining rig machinery such as drawworks, mud pumps, top drive systems, rotary tables, hoisting equipment, engines, compressors, and auxiliary systems. I perform routine preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and safety standards to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. I diagnose mechanical failures using technical manuals, schematics, and hands-on testing, then carry out corrective repairs under operational time constraints. This includes dismantling, repairing, aligning, and reassembling mechanical components, bearings, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems. I work closely with the Toolpusher, Driller, and other rig crews to plan maintenance activities without disrupting drilling operations. Safety is a key part of my role. I strictly follow HSE policies, conduct job safety analyses (JSA), and ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance tasks. I also participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident prevention initiatives. Additionally, I maintain accurate maintenance records, report equipment conditions, and recommend repairs or replacements when required. I assist with rig moves, rig-up and rig-down activities, ensuring all mechanical systems are properly installed and tested. My role requires strong mechanical skills, problem-solving ability, teamwork, and the flexibility to work in demanding environments, both onshore and offshore, while maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
