Roles and Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate all well drilling, workover and completions operations, ensuring they are performed according to company standards, safety regulations and well program. ● Manage contractor crews, service providers, and third-party vendors to ensure efficient and timely execution of well operations. ● Ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. ● Conduct safety meetings, risk assessments, safety drills and pre-job planning sessions. ● Supervise well control operations including kick detection, shut-in procedures, and implementation of well control techniques (e.g. Driller’s and Engineer’s methods). ● Oversee execution of drilling programs including directional drilling, casing and cementing operations, and BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly) design implementation. ● Ensure correct rig-up and rig-down of equipment, verifying integrity of BOP stack, choke manifold, and pressure control systems. ● Coordinate well testing, logging, fishing, sidetracking, and completion operations, including tubing installation and packer setting. ● Monitor and interpreted drilling parameters (WOB, RPM, torque, standpipe pressure, flow rate) for optimization. ● Manage mud programs including mud weight control, solids control equipment, and treatment of losses or contamination. ● Ensure accurate implementation of casing and cementing operations including centralizer placement, cement slurry design, and displacement calculations. ● Supervise hydraulic calculations for bit hydraulics, annular velocity, and ECD to minimize formation damage and avoid wellbore instability. ● Optimize rig performance by identifying and resolving operational issues to reduce nonproductive time (NPT). ● Ensure correct and cost-effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel. ● Critically review all program with a sound operational approach, clarifying any areas of uncertainties, before implementation. ● Prepare job instruction and all daily reports, e.g., DDR, lookahead, DVD, DCR. ● Review and approve daily drilling/workover reports, time sheets, and service tickets. ● Coordinate with drilling engineers, production teams, and service contractors to ensure smooth execution of both drilling and workover tasks. ● Always maintain well control, ensuring well pressure management procedures are followed and troubleshooting any well control issues that arise. ● Ensure the availability and proper functioning of equipment, materials, and services required. ● Identify and resolve operational challenges, such as stuck pipe, losses, or formation damage. ● Supervise and manage contractors, third-party service providers, and vendors. ● Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior engineers and rig crew.
