Roles and Responsibilities
Drilling engineers are involved in a project from initial design to abandonment, focusing on technical operations, safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental compliance. Well Planning & Design: Drawing up detailed drilling programs and well data sheets, considering desired flow rates and target locations specified by geoscientists. Designing well paths, including directional, horizontal, or multilateral trajectories, while planning for anti-collision measures. Sizing and specifying casing strings, drill bits, and drilling equipment, ensuring they meet burst, collapse, and tension requirements. Designing, selecting, installing, and maintaining surface wellhead and "Christmas Tree" equipment. Ensuring all equipment meets industry standards, such as API 6A standards. Overseeing the pressure testing and final functional testing of refurbished or newly installed equipment. Integrity & Maintenance: Conducting well integrity management activities, including sustained casing pressure management and testing of downhole safety valves. Troubleshooting technical issues related to the wellhead system and optimizing its performance. Maintaining tools and equipment in optimal working condition and managing proper handling and storages.
